Family of slain Immigration Officer threatens retaliation after court ruling

The family of the late Immigration Officer, Stephen King Amoah, has threatened to take matters into their own hands if any member of their household dies following judgment in the ongoing murder case.

This comes after police arrested another suspect linked to the alleged murder of the 38-year-old officer.

Tensions escalated outside the Adabraka District Court on Friday, August 22, as police struggled to escort the two suspects, Bright Aweh and Thomas Zigah, into custody.

Speaking to journalists, an in-law of the deceased, Yaw Mensah, accused the police of shielding the suspects. He warned that the family would resort to retaliation if any of their members were harmed.

“We will go after the suspects if any of our family members are harmed after judgment is pronounced. We have taken notice of everyone associated with the suspects. If the police keep shielding them by collecting money, we will deal with them ourselves,” Mensah stated.

In court, the case was adjourned to September 4, 2025, to allow for further investigations. Another suspect is still on the run.

Both the prime suspect, Bright Aweh, and the second accused, Thomas Zigah, also known as Nii Dzaase, were present in court. Counsel for Zigah, Gordon Aboagye, requested that his client—who appeared to be in pain and limping—be referred to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, arguing that treatment at the Police Hospital had proven ineffective.

Prosecutors opposed the request, maintaining that the Police Hospital was adequately equipped to handle the accused’s condition. The judge ruled that the defence must file a formal application if they insisted on a transfer.

The case is expected to resume on September 4.
