The Ministry of Health has strongly condemned an attack on health professionals at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge), describing the incident as an act of aggression that threatens the safety of healthcare providers and patients.

This follows the circulation of a video showing relatives of a patient and some health workers engaged in an altercation at the hospital’s emergency department during an emergency case.

In a statement signed by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Tony Goodman, on Monday, August 18, 2025, the Ministry said the assault on health workers at the hospital’s emergency department was unacceptable and compromised the delivery of critical healthcare services.

The Ministry announced immediate measures to address the situation, including tightening security at the facility and launching investigations into the circumstances that led to the reported delay in care.

Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has since visited the hospital and assured management and staff of the Ministry’s support and protection.

The statement further urged the public to exercise patience, cooperation, and mutual respect to enable health professionals to provide timely and effective care.
