Helicopter makes emergency landing in Ajumako Kokoben amid bad weather

Residents of Ajumako Kokoben in Ghana’s Central Region were startled on Wednesday afternoon, August 6, 2025, when a helicopter made an emergency landing at the Presby school park due to adverse weather conditions.

The aircraft, bearing the registration 9G-ADW, was carrying four passengers when it ran into poor visibility and turbulent winds mid-flight. Faced with worsening weather and potential safety risks, the pilot made a precautionary decision to land in an open field that appeared to be part of a local school compound.

The unexpected landing attracted large crowds from the surrounding community, many of whom gathered in awe to witness the rare scene.

Local residents reported that the helicopter remained on the ground for roughly an hour as the crew monitored weather updates and ensured it was safe to resume the journey.

Fortunately, the landing was smooth, and no injuries or damages were reported. Once conditions improved, the helicopter took off and continued its flight without further complications.

The emergency landing occurred just hours after a tragic military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, which claimed the lives of eight people, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

While unrelated, the two incidents occurring on the same day heightened public concern over aviation safety and weather monitoring protocols across the country.

Aviation authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the emergency landing in Ajumako Kokoben, but sources close to the flight suggest the pilot’s decision was in line with standard safety procedures in the face of deteriorating weather.
