I’ll transform journalism in Ashanti Region – Adu Domfeh

The Ashanti Regional Chairperson-elect of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Kofi Adu Domfeh, has revealed plans to transform the association within his first six months in office.

Speaking after securing a decisive victory in the rerun election, he called on journalists in the region to remain united and rally behind him in driving positive change within the GJA.

Domfeh secured 20 out of 31 valid votes in a closely contested rerun held on Friday, August 22. His opponent, Georgina Ama Ankomah, received 11 votes. There were no rejected ballots, and all votes cast were valid.

The rerun was ordered by the GJA Elections Dispute Adjudication Committee (EDAC) following the June 30, 2025, elections, which were marred by irregularities. These included a breach of GJA constitutional provisions and concerns over voter eligibility, such as a journalist registered in the Greater Accra Region voting in Ashanti.

Speaking to journalists after the rerun, Domfeh noted “I said from the beginning that this election that we went to was for the liberation of the media in the Ashanti region and I should say now and here that there is a new dawn for journalism and media practice here in the Ashanti region.

“A lot is expected of me and my team and I am standing here declaring that we will never disappoint our colleague journalists and people who look up to qualitative journalism and media practice here in the Ashanti region and the country.”

“…We will not relent in our efforts to change the dynamics and fortunes of Ashanti GJA and I stand here in the capacity as the chair elect on behalf of my members to say that in the next six months transformation will be experienced in Ashanti region in terms of our profession and that is a commitment I am upholding and promising all members.”
