President John Dramani Mahama has stepped in to ease fresh tensions between the Gonja and Brifor communities in the Sawla-Bole area of the Savannah Region.

Returning from a state visit to Singapore, the President was briefed by the National Security Coordinator and the Interior Minister on the situation. While abroad, he also held a phone discussion with the Yagbonwura, Jira Bikunuto Jewu Soale I, on measures to promote peace and reconciliation.

To de-escalate the conflict, President Mahama has dispatched an Interior Ministry-led delegation, headed by Muntaka Mohamed-Mubarak, to engage the Yagbonwura and other stakeholders. Security has also been reinforced with fresh police and military deployments.

The President appealed to all sides to support efforts to end the conflict, directing the delegation to work with the regional security council, traditional leaders, and community actors to foster dialogue and resolve disputes peacefully.

According to the Presidency, government remains resolute in maintaining peace, law, and order in the area.
