Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has urged the Ghana Education Service (GES) to integrate agriculture more effectively into the school curriculum.

Speaking in Accra on Friday, August 29, at the launch of the School Farm Initiative, Mr. Debrah said the programme is designed to encourage the use of produce from school farms to cut government spending on the Senior High School feeding programme.

He explained that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of making agriculture the backbone of food security, job creation, and youth empowerment.

Mr. Debrah further appealed for broad stakeholder support, noting that the success of the programme requires collaboration from teachers, parents, and unions.

“The GES must ensure that agriculture is woven into teaching and learning, and learning not as punishment but as a practical tool for education. School heads and CHASS must provide leadership at the institutional level to make the farms vibrant and sustainable.”

He added:

“…This initiative cannot succeed without the full support of our teachers and parents. I therefore call on NAGRAT, CCT-GH and all teacher unions to embrace this initiative.”

Mr. Debrah described the initiative as a strategic investment in the nation’s future.
