Ghanaian actor Melvin Dain says his latest role in For Love and Country 2 has pushed him to explore new depths in his craft, forcing him to abandon every comfort zone he has ever known.
Directed by Shirley Frimpong-Manso, the sequel continues the story of Joshua, a man caught in a dangerous affair with the First Lady. When circumstances threaten to expose them, Joshua must reinvent himself completely a transformation that tested Dain’s emotional range and physical adaptability.
“This is probably one of the most difficult roles I’ve taken in my career,” he revealed. “It wasn’t just about changing how I looked, it was about changing how I thought, moved, and felt. Every decision my character made came from a place of fear, love, and survival.”
The transformation required nearly two hours of preparation for each shoot, with meticulous attention to detail in appearance, posture, tone, and body language.
Dain admits the process was intense, but says it deepened his connection to storytelling.
“It was hard. Really hard,” he said. “But it reminded me why I love acting. It’s about stepping into someone else’s shoes fully no matter how uncomfortable and telling their truth.”
For Dain, the role was a lesson in vulnerability and resilience, offering a rare opportunity to strip back his own identity and embody a character living under extraordinary pressure.
For Love and Country 2 is set to premiere later this year.
