A leadership transition in the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications has ushered in a new era for Ghana’s telecom industry.

Stephen Blewett, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, has been elected Chairperson of the Chamber’s Governing Council for the 2025–2026 term, succeeding Patricia Obo‑Nai, CEO of Telecel Ghana.

Obo‑Nai has now assumed the role of Vice‑Chairperson.

The announcement followed the Chamber’s 14th Annual General Meeting earlier this month, where key challenges such as infrastructure theft, vandalism of cell sites, fiber-optic cable destruction, high taxation, increased operational fees, and escalating cybersecurity threats were prominently raised.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Blewett commended Obo‑Nai’s leadership and called for unified efforts across the sector to overcome its pressing obstacles.

“The telecommunications sector is the backbone of Ghana’s digital economy,” he said. “But the challenges we face demand collective ingenuity and partnership. We must bind together to surmount these obstacles and ensure sustained growth.”

During his one-year tenure, Blewett will spearhead advocacy efforts alongside the Chamber’s CEO, strengthen ties with government entities, and drive innovation to expand digital inclusion.

His responsibilities include chairing bi-monthly Governing Council meetings, overseeing strategic initiatives, and representing the Chamber at national and international forums.

Reflecting on the transition, Obo‑Nai remarked:

“It’s been a difficult time due to several challenges, but we’ve stood strong. The times ahead require us to work collectively, and I’m confident Stephen’s vision will guide us forward.”

The AGM also approved the Chamber’s 2024 financial statements and authorized the Governing Council to determine auditor remuneration. The Council remains the Chamber’s board of directors, comprised of heads from member organizations, convening bi-monthly to advance Ghana’s telecom industry.

About the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications

The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications serves as the voice of the mobile telecom and technology sector in Ghana, promoting the development of telecommunications and mobile financial services through advocacy, coordination, and stakeholder engagement.
