The management of MultiChoice, operators of DSTV, has assured its staff in Ghana of its commitment to addressing the directive issued by the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George.
In an internal circular dated Friday, August 1, 2025, the company urged staff to remain calm, assuring them that steps were being taken to resolve the issue and prevent the suspension of its broadcasting licence.
This follows a directive by Minister Sam George during a sector update on August 1, instructing the National Communications Authority (NCA) to suspend DSTV’s broadcasting licence if the company fails to reduce its subscription fees by August 7, 2025.
The directive comes in response to MultiChoice’s refusal to revise its pricing despite the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi.
In a nine-page response to the Ministry, DSTV argued that the cedi had depreciated by over 200% in the past eight years and maintained that the recent gains in the local currency were not stable enough to justify a price reduction.
