Three persons have been arrested in Damongo for allegedly flouting a directive issued by the Paramount Chief of the Damongo Traditional Area, Damongowura Boresah Kelly Seidu I.

The chief had earlier banned the sale of khebab, popularly known as chinchinga, and directed that any animal slaughtered outside the abattoir constructed by the West Gonja Municipal Assembly would be considered stolen. The directive remains in force until further notice.

Confirming the arrests to Channel One News on Saturday, September 20, 2025, the Youth Chief of Damongo, Mbonwura Lukman Salifu Soldier, said his outfit received reports that some residents had violated the ban.

“Upon hearing the information, Damongowura Boresah Kelly Seidu, I sent a delegation through me to confirm the slaughtering of a cow in an individual’s residence in Damongo,” he explained.

The measures, according to the traditional authority, were introduced to curb rising cases of livestock theft in the area.

Several animal owners have complained of losing their sheep, goats, and cattle, with some incidents linked to a suspected theft syndicate.

The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
