The Ghana Navy has marked its 11th Memorial Day Celebration at the Naval Headquarters in Sekondi-Takoradi.

The ceremony, observed annually on 14th September, honours gallant Navy personnel who died in service to the Ghana Navy.

This year’s event also marks 35 years since the bombing of the Ghana Navy Ship Yogaga in Liberia during the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) operations.

Gracing the occasion as Guest of Honour was Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who laid a wreath in honour of the fallen heroes.

The ceremony themed, “Sacrifice, service and sovereignty: the legacy of the Ghana Navy”, also serves as an opportunity to reflect on the achievements and contributions of the Ghana Navy in safeguarding Ghana’s maritime domain and promoting regional and international peace.
