The Eastern Regional Minister and Chairperson of the Eastern Regional Security Council, Rita Akosua Awatey, has assured residents of Kukurantumi in the Abuakwa North Municipality of a fair and thorough investigation into the death of a suspect in police custody and the subsequent attacks on the Kukurantumi Police Station.
The Regional Minister, who rushed to the scene to assess the extent of the damage caused by the violent clashes, also engaged the youth and opinion leaders of the community.
She urged them to remain calm and allow investigations to proceed.
Madam Awatey further visited the family house of the deceased to commiserate with them, assuring them that all legal and legitimate means would be used to ensure justice is served.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Police Command has temporarily closed the Kukurantumi Police Station and withdrawn all personnel following the attacks.
