The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, has issued a stern warning to criminals operating in Ghana, assuring them that no matter how far or long they run, the police will eventually catch up with them.
Her bold statement comes in the wake of the Ghana Police Service’s recent success in dismantling a notorious armed robbery syndicate that had been targeting rural banks across five regions of the country.
“To the criminals out there, always remember that you may run and hide, but we will surely get you arrested to face the full rigours of the law. We are coming for you,” COP Donkor declared during a press briefing at the National Police Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday September 24.
The warning follows what the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, described as a “major breakthrough” in the fight against violent crimes. The coordinated police operation, which covered the Ashanti, Ahafo, Western, Central, and Eastern regions, led to the arrest of 10 suspects and the death of three others during a shootout. Several weapons, ammunition, vehicles, and mobile phones were recovered from the suspects.
COP Donkor emphasised that the police will not relent in their efforts to root out all criminal elements in the country.
“We wish to assure the good people of Ghana that the Police Service will continue to work around the clock to ensure security, law, and order at all times,” she added.
She also appealed to the public and all stakeholders to support the police by reporting suspicious activities and providing credible information that can aid investigations.
“As always, we call on all our stakeholders and the general public to continue to support the police, report suspicious activities, and share credible information with the police,” she said.
The CID boss’s remarks echo the IGP’s firm stance that the Service remains committed to maintaining public safety and making Ghana an uncomfortable place for criminals.
The Ghana Police Service continues to encourage the public to remain alert and cooperative, assuring citizens that their efforts to provide information will not go unnoticed — and will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
