Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will lead a high-powered Ghanaian delegation to the upcoming Democracy Union of Africa (DUA) and International Democracy Union (IDU) conference in Nairobi, Kenya.

The five-day event, scheduled for October 26–30, 2025, will bring together political leaders, campaign strategists, and democracy advocates from across Africa, Europe, and beyond to deliberate on the future of democratic governance and campaign management in the 21st century.

Themed “Campaign Management Masterclass: Voters Have Moved On From Your Last Campaign, So You Must Too,” the conference will explore emerging trends in political strategy, governance, and leadership.

Former President Akufo-Addo is expected to deliver the keynote address, where he will share insights on democratic resilience and institutional reforms. He will also be honoured for his contributions to strengthening democratic governance in Ghana and across Africa.

His address is anticipated to highlight Ghana’s experience in peaceful political transitions and the importance of safeguarding democratic institutions amid global uncertainty.

Joining the former President are several prominent members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), including:

  • Dr. Stephen Amoah, MP for Nhyiaeso and former Deputy Finance Minister, who will moderate a panel on “Energy, Enterprise, and the Environment: A Centre-Right Vision for the Future.”

  • Michael Okyere Baafi, MP for New Juaben South and former Deputy Trade and Industry Minister, who will feature in a session on “Ending Dependency: Rethinking Africa’s Path to Prosperity.”

  • Sammi Awuku, MP for Akuapem North and Vice-President of SME Global (IDU), who will contribute to a discussion on “Trade, Not Aid: Unlocking the Potential of Africa’s Business Partnerships.”

The international forum will also feature high-profile participants such as former Nigerian Senate President Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, Rev. Dr. J. Luther Tarpeh of Liberia, and representatives from Kenya’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and South Africa’s Democratic Alliance (DA).

Organisers say the goal of the conference is to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among political actors, strengthen democratic institutions, and equip participants with innovative, ethical, and data-driven campaign tools to better engage today’s evolving electorate.

The gathering in Kenya reaffirms Africa’s growing role in shaping global democratic discourse and highlights Ghana’s continued reputation as a beacon of democracy and political stability on the continent.
