DVLA suspends road compliance fines effective October 15

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced the suspension of all fines issued by its Compliance Team on roads across the country, effective Wednesday October 15, 2025.

The suspension will remain in place until further notice.

This move comes after weeks of intensified enforcement by the DVLA’s Compliance Team, aimed at ensuring that drivers and vehicles on Ghana’s roads met all legal and regulatory requirements.

However, following public feedback and further internal consultations, the Authority has decided to halt the exercise temporarily to allow for broader stakeholder engagement.

In a statement issued on October 14, the DVLA emphasised that while road safety remains a top priority, it recognises the need for more public education on the responsibilities and consequences associated with non-compliance.

“This suspension relates specifically to the fees and charges that were being enforced by the Compliance Team,” the statement clarified. “It does not suspend the legal requirements for drivers and vehicles to operate on Ghana’s roads.”

The DVLA assured the public that the suspension is intended to create space for further discussions before reintroducing the compliance initiative. In the meantime, all drivers and vehicle owners are reminded to continue adhering to road safety laws and regulations.
