Former Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi, has alleged that the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) is complicit in illegal mining popularly known as galamsey, insisting that Goldbod buys from both illegal and legal miners
Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV, on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, Dr Adomako purported that the GoldBod, headed by Sammy Gyamfi, is buying gold from which ever “criminal” brings him gold to buy, making the board complicit in galamsey
“What Goldbod has is a huge amount from both small-scale mining and illegal mining, and he ( Sammy Gyamfi) can’t argue anything because he is clueless as to where he is grabbing. He is grabbing from whichever criminal is bringing him gold; that is the situation
“As it stands now, if someone buys a machine from a thief, the police can still arrest the person for purchasing a stolen item, and he won’t go scot-free; the laws won’t allow him to go scot-free. Once you’re a complicit and I can say today on authority that Goldbod is complicit in the galamsey fight, and they are compromised,” he alleged
Dr Adomako also demanded that Goldbod put in stringent measures to trace where they buy their gold from
“As it stands now, even potatoes in Europe, you can track it to the farm where it is produced, why can’t we track our gold to the site, and I demand that Goldbod put in measures to track where the gold is coming from”, he demanded
The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) is a body corporate established by an Act of Parliament (ACT 1140) in the year 2025 to oversee, regulate and undertake the buying, selling, assaying, refining, exporting and other related activities in respect of Gold and other Precious Minerals in Ghana.
