PAC: Mahama’s push for swift prosecution of corrupt officials commendable – Edem Senanu

Co-Chair of the Citizens Movement Against Corruption (CMaC), Edem Senanu, has praised President John Dramani Mahama for his commitment to expediting the prosecution of public officials implicated in the misuse or mismanagement of state resources.

President Mahama, while expressing concern over recurring financial infractions cited in the Auditor-General’s report, announced plans to collaborate with the Chief Justice, the Attorney-General, the Minister for Justice, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the faster prosecution of such cases.

Reacting to the announcement, Mr. Senanu described the President’s initiative as a decisive and practical step toward strengthening accountability and protecting the public purse.

“I think it is highly commendable. Indeed, many of us have felt that this charade of having a Public Accounts Committee sit, highlight figures, and then a year after highlighting even higher figures, without seeing traction on retrieving the money or holding culprits accountable, does not augur well for governance,” he said.

He lamented the long-standing culture of impunity surrounding financial mismanagement in the public sector, noting that repeated audit findings without consequences have weakened public trust in state institutions.

“Because all of these feed into impunity. So how the President wants to deal with this matter is highly commendable,” Mr. Senanu added.
