The Ghana Police Service has arrested ten individuals for allegedly creating fake online food delivery platforms to defraud unsuspecting customers.

According to the Police, the arrests were made by the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) following weeks of sustained intelligence operations.

The first six suspects — Wonder Sakpiti, Sedinam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto, and Fafali Amoah — were apprehended on October 1, 2025, during a targeted operation in Sogakope. They were found to be behind a sophisticated online fraud scheme impersonating well-known food brands, including Papaye, Pizzaman, KFC, and Mawarko.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects created fake websites and social media pages that appeared to belong to these brands. Victims who placed orders were instructed to make advance payments through mobile money, but never received their food.

Further investigations uncovered that in some cases, the suspects gained unauthorised access to victims’ mobile money and bank accounts under the pretext of assisting with payments, subsequently withdrawing funds. Digital devices linked to the fraud were retrieved and are undergoing forensic analysis.

The operation later led to the arrest of the ringleader, Elijah Sotama Etse, also known as Pop Smoke, along with Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu, and Obed Selasi Agboli, at their hideout in Haatso, Accra, on October 12, 2025. Twelve mobile phones believed to have been used in the fraudulent operations were seized for further examination.

All ten suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before the court today, Monday, October 13, 2025.

The Police have urged members of the public who may have fallen victim to similar scams to report to the nearest police station to assist with ongoing investigations.
