The Ghana Police Service, in a joint operation with the Ghana Armed Forces, has arrested more than 300 suspects in an ongoing joint security operation across parts of the Ahafo Region.
The coordinated exercise, which covers communities such as Hwidiem, Kenyasi, Goaso, and Mehame, is aimed at combating crime, maintaining public order, and ensuring community safety.
According to police sources, the operation has been progressing smoothly without any major incidents recorded. Earlier updates indicated that about 30 men and women were arrested at various locations, but the number has since increased to over 300 as the operation intensifies.
Police sources say further details, including profiles of the suspects and specific offences, will be communicated in due course as the operation continues.

The arrest comes in the wake of a series of violent attacks on state officials enforcing anti-illegal mining operations. On November 1, 2025, the Director of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) and his team were ambushed at Hwediem in the Ahafo Region after intercepting illegal miners near Bronikrom and arresting suspects.
The operation led to the seizure of a Smith & Wesson pistol, two magazines, 21 rounds of 9mm ammunition, an unregistered Range Rover, an unregistered Toyota RAV4, and several mobile phones.
However, while the suspects were being transported to the Hwediem Police Station, a mob of about 600 people descended on the facility, vandalising the Director’s vehicle, damaging parts of the station, and attempting to set it ablaze, according to police reports.
In a related incident on November 6, 2025, illegal miners attacked a team from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), led by its Chief Executive Officer, Professor Nana Ama Browne Klutse, at Dadwene near Obuasi.
The group, which included some journalists, was forced to retreat, but while taking an alternative route back to Kumasi, their vehicle collided with a KIA truck at Afari, leaving several people injured.
