The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrsu has reaffirmed President Mahama’s commitment under the “Reset Agenda” to continue every viable initiative started by previous governments while reviewing and improving projects that do not offer value for money but contribute to Ghana’s human resource development goals.
He said this at the Bimbilla Senior High School in the Nanumba North Municipality of the Northern Region, where he commissioned a 160-bed dormitory block and a 24-seater sanitary facility for female students constructed by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
The new facility comes as a huge relief to the school, which had been forced to convert classrooms into dormitories due to inadequate accommodation.
The Education Minister commended the previous government for initiating the project and assured that President Mahama’s administration remains committed to continuing all viable projects that provide value for money and serve the interests of citizens.
“I will be the first to acknowledge the initiative of the previous government and to assure you that President John Dramani Mahama, under his Reset Agenda, will continue with every worthy, viable initiative of the previous government, same in the instances where he is not satisfied with the value for money of that initiative.
“… We will not behave like them when a number of projects we started far back in 2014 have not been completed.”
He noted that while the Free SHS policy expanded access, infrastructure development had not kept pace. He announced plans to provide a 300-bed dormitory for male students next year and to upgrade Bimbilla Senior High School from a Grade C to a Grade B institution through additional investment in infrastructure.
The Minister also outlined broader government plans aimed at improving secondary education across the country.
At the commissioning ceremony, the headmaster expressed gratitude for the new facilities, noting the relief they would bring to both staff and students.
He further appealed for a dormitory block for male students and a vehicle to support the school’s operations.
The Executive Director of GNPC pledged the corporation’s continuous collaboration with the government to enhance educational infrastructure and urged students to take proper care of the new facility.
Some students could not hide their excitement, expressing gratitude for the new facility and the improved learning environment it will provide.
