The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, on Friday, November 21, 2025, led a team of central bank officials to the Makola Market as part of ongoing public engagement activities marking the Cedi@60 celebration.

Dr. Asiama, accompanied by Deputy Governor Dr. Zakari Mumuni and staff of the Bank, interacted with traders to better understand their trading conditions while deepening public education on the value and proper handling of the national currency.

During the engagement, the Governor stressed the need for Ghanaians to show respect and care for banknotes, reminding the public that every cedi handled responsibly contributes to preserving the currency’s lifespan and reducing replacement costs.

He advised traders, saying, “Do not squeeze the cedi, do not crumple the cedi, do not write on it, and always keep your money in a purse, wallet, or aprons.”

The community outreach is part of a broader nationwide campaign aimed at strengthening confidence in the Ghana Cedi and promoting financial awareness under the Cedi@60 theme: “Our Money, Our Heritage.”
