Deputy General Secretary (Operations) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has claimed that every constituency of the party currently receives GHS20,000 monthly from the presidency to support party activities.

Addressing some party members in a video sighted by Citi News on Saturday, November 1, he asserted that the funds were directly sourced from the president and are used to service the party’s operations across the country.

“Today, as we speak, GHS20,000 goes to the constituency every month to service the party and it comes straight from the president,” he stated.

According to him, the current form of governance in Ghana is unprecedented, with a level of inclusivity and appointments that cut across diverse backgrounds.

“As we speak, if you look at the forms and shapes of governance and governments that get formed, Ghana has never had the kind of government we have today. The support we got was so diverse that it didn’t just come from NDC people, so you realize that at one time he will appoint one stranger into our midst,” he explained.

Mr. Gbande further alleged that both party officials and their spouses have benefited from government appointments, describing the situation as unique in Ghana’s political history.

“If your wife was not appointed, you yourself were appointed. He did so. For the first time, regional secretaries and a few chairmen assumed the responsibility of regional ministers,” he said.

He added that the trend extends across the country, with several regional and constituency executives holding government positions.

“For the first time in the history of our country, if you go to the regions, about eight to nine executives of every region have been appointed into government. And if you go to the constituencies, about eight or ten executives of every single constituency have been appointed into some office of government at some level,” Mr. Gbande stated.
