The French Embassy in Ghana has reiterated its commitment to supporting the growth and global visibility of Ghana’s creative and cultural industries, describing the sector as a major engine for economic transformation, youth empowerment, and international cultural exchange.
Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of the second edition of Création Africa Ghana, an initiative by the French government to empower entrepreneurs in the Cultural and Creative Industries, Cultural Attaché at the French Embassy, Jereme Desjardins, highlighted the immense economic and social potential of Ghana’s creative ecosystem.
According to him, sectors such as video gaming, book publishing, cinema, and digital arts are rapidly expanding globally and have become major industries capable of surpassing traditional manufacturing sectors in economic value.
He emphasised that Ghana stands at a strategic advantage due to its vibrant youth population and dynamic creative talent.
“It’s important on many levels. Economically, people sometimes overlook the potential of the creative sector. But industries like gaming, publishing, and cinema are huge bigger than some traditional industries. And in Africa, especially in Ghana, the creative space is deeply connected to the youth and the most innovative segments of entrepreneurship,” he stated.
He further indicated that the Création Africa Ghana programme provides essential mentorship, exposure, and financial support to young Ghanaian creatives who often only need an opportunity to launch their ideas.
Beyond job creation, he said the initiative helps build self-confidence and strengthens national pride by promoting Ghanaian culture locally and internationally.
“We are proud, as the French Embassy, to contribute to fostering the local creative industry, giving trust and strength to young creatives who sometimes just need recognition. We are also a funding partner, with grants available to support their projects. The impact is economic, cultural, and international,” he added.
He underscored the programme’s role in connecting Ghanaian creatives with their French-speaking counterparts across West Africa, promoting cross-cultural exchange and regional collaboration.
Desjardins encouraged other international partners, corporate bodies, and government agencies to adopt similar initiatives, noting that Ghana’s creative sector holds enormous untapped potential and requires broader support to scale.
The Création Africa Ghana initiative showcases Ghana’s cultural and creative talent while offering capacity-building, funding opportunities, mentorship, and international networks to emerging entrepreneurs. It forms part of a broader strategy by the French government to deepen cultural diplomacy and support Africa’s creative future.
