Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, has confirmed the replacement of all officers in charge of recruitment following a tragic stampede at the El Wak Sports Stadium that left six women dead and several others injured.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, during a recruitment exercise when thousands of hopeful applicants surged into the stadium for documentation and body selection, triggering a deadly crush.
In response, the President directed the formation of a committee to investigate the tragedy.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Monday, November 17, Captain Arhin stated that the entire recruitment team responsible for the 2025/2026 intake in the Greater Accra Region has been asked to step aside to allow for a fair and independent inquiry.
“The Ghana Armed Forces has taken several steps, and one of them, under the direction of our commander in chief, is to constitute the board of enquiry, which has started. The Officers in charge of the department that is responsible for recruitment have been asked to step aside,” she said.
Captain Arhin also highlighted the creation of new centres to ensure the recruitment process proceeds smoothly:
“We have also come up with new centres to help the process go on more smoothly, and so we have El-wak, where we are going to have two centres we have Nicholson Park, also going to be put into two centres; Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) also has two centres.
“In addition to that, we have Air Force Base Burma Camp and the Eastern Naval Command also in Tema,” she added.
