Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have successfully contained a fire outbreak at the Mallam Atta Market in Accra on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, averting what could have been a major disaster.

According to the Service, the distress call was received at 10:46 p.m. The first fire appliance, from the National Headquarters and led by ADO I Ahoni, arrived at the scene at 11:02 p.m.

Reinforcement teams from the Circle and Flagstaff House Fire Stations joined the operation at 11:13 p.m. and 11:29 p.m., respectively.

The firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control by 12:01 a.m. and fully extinguished it at 12:24 a.m.

Twelve wooden structures—six used as shops and six as dwellings—were destroyed in the incident. A 40-foot container serving as a cold store also suffered partial damage.

Despite the destruction, GNFS officials noted that several adjoining structures were saved due to the swift and tactical intervention of the responding crews.

No casualties or injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established, as investigations are ongoing.
