KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is celebrating 65 years of uninterrupted service to Ghana, an achievement that underscores the airline’s long-standing contribution to Ghana’s aviation sector, economic development and global integration.
Since touching down in Accra for the first time on November 1, 1960, KLM has maintained a continuous presence in the country, becoming one of Ghana’s most reliable international carriers and a key partner for both business and leisure travelers.
Founded in 1919, KLM is the world’s oldest operating airline still flying under its original name. Its global network of more than 160 destinations has helped position the carrier as a crucial bridge between regions and a catalyst for international trade, tourism and investment.

Today, KLM operates daily flights between Amsterdam and Accra, providing seamless onward connections to Europe, North America, Asia, and beyond. Flights depart Amsterdam at 14:35 and arrive in Accra at 20:05, with the return leg leaving Accra at 22:05 and landing in Amsterdam at 05:45 the next day.
Over its 65-year journey in Ghana, KLM has supported bilateral cooperation between Ghana and the Netherlands, especially in trade and investment while facilitating travel for thousands of passengers annually, enabling new economic and educational opportunities.
In addition, it has invested in local talent through employment, training and knowledge transfer and contributed to community initiatives in education, sustainability and women’s empowerment.

The anniversary was marked at a ceremony in Accra attended by senior government officials, business leaders, partners, customers, and members of the diplomatic community.
The event highlighted KLM’s enduring partnerships and the airline’s continued relevance in Ghana’s aviation landscape.
KLM says it remains committed to expanding its footprint in Ghana and West Africa through four strategic pillars:
- Sustainable aviation by investing in fuel-efficient aircraft, biofuel development, and climate-friendly technology.
- Customer experience driven by digital innovation, comfort improvements, and personalised service.
- Diversity and inclusion within its global workforce and customer base.
- Partnership and connectivity to ensure Ghana remains linked to key global markets.
“KLM customers are at the heart of our service,” said Isabelle Indeweij Gerlings, Air France–KLM Country Manager for Ghana.
“We continue to invest in new fleet and upgrade our existing aircraft, including full-flat business class seats. Our role is to maintain vital air connectivity that supports sustainable tourism and development. We thank Ghana for 65 years of partnership and look forward to many more.”

The celebration follows KLM’s 106th global anniversary in October and reaffirmed the airline’s appreciation for its Ghanaian customers, staff and partners who have been part of its journey.
For more than a century, KLM has built a reputation for connecting nations and supporting economic growth.
As the airline marks 65 years in Ghana, it says its mission remains unchanged: flying cleaner, quieter and more efficiently while keeping people and markets connected for generations to come.
