Manhyia postpones ‘Great Oath’ hearing case involving Lumba’s sister

The Manhyia Palace has postponed the hearing of a case involving a relative of musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, for invoking the Great Oath of the Asantehene.

The development comes after Daddy Lumba’s sister, Ernestina Akosua Bimpomaa, invoked the Great Oath of the Asantehene during a court hearing on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, in a case filed by Daddy Lumba’s first wife, Akosua Serwaa, challenging who sits in as a lawfully wedded wife of the late musician.

According to Asante custom and tradition, cases involving the Great Oath must be resolved at the Manhyia Palace, as courts are not empowered to handle them.

The family was summoned to appear before the palace for resolution on Monday, November 3, 2025; however, the hearing was postponed as a result of a pending court case awaiting a verdict.

Meanwhile, a Kumasi High Court has dismissed an injunction application by Akosua Serwaa to halt the funeral rites of highlife legend Daddy Lumba.

The court affirmed that the authority over his remains rests with his extended family, not his first wife, Akosua Serwaa, per the Asante tradition.

With the injunction dismissed, the legal focus now shifts to the core of the dispute, which is declaring who the main surviving spouse is.

The court ordered all parties to file all necessary legal processes by Friday, October 31, for a Case Management Conference scheduled for November 14, which will set the stage for the main hearing, slated to begin on November 17.

The court expects the hearing to be completed by November 21, with a final judgment on the broader case expected on November 25.
