The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, together with the military hierarchy, on Friday morning visited the family of NAIMOS military officer, Private Sarfo Agyapong, who lost his life in an accident while heading to Obuasi.
The accident occurred late on Wednesday as the team travelled to Obuasi after an operation at a concession in Anyankyerim, which had been taken over by illegal miners.
Speaking to the family at their home in Afuaman in the Greater Accra Region on Friday, November 21, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, assured them that the government will make provisions to support them.
“I bring you greetings from President John Dramani Mahama. Our brother, Private Agyapong, died in the line of duty to save Ghana. He was fighting so that our forests and waters would be preserved. We will make all necessary arrangements to support the family. So please be consoled and be informed that your son is a hero for Ghana.”
Chief of the Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, also reassured the family that the military will accord the late Private Agyapong all the necessary courtesies and oversee his burial in line with military customs.
“I wish to assure the family that the entire Ghana Armed Forces will accord all the necessary courtesies in preparation for his burial, as military ethics demand.”
