The Member of Parliament for Yendi, Alhassan Fataw Jofa, has commissioned a mechanised borehole for residents of Nakpache in the Yendi Municipality to address the community’s long-standing struggle for potable water.
For years, residents—particularly women—have endured severe challenges accessing safe water, often walking long distances, especially during the dry season. Their plight, highlighted through repeated reports by Channel One News, has now received the needed intervention.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mr Alhassan urged residents to maintain the facility and ensure its peaceful and fair use. He noted that the borehole will significantly ease the community’s burden.
“Initially, there was a time they did some solar water systems for them, but it didn’t last. And so when we came, we saw that it was a big issue. I gave them my word that if I come, that will be a thing of the past. And I’m happy that within the first year of my four-year term, that is actually being attended to,” he said.

The MP also cut sod for the construction of a CHPS compound for the community, explaining that access to healthcare remains a major challenge for residents, especially during emergencies along the Yendi–Bimbilla road.
At the sod-cutting ceremony, he urged the contractor to ensure quality work, use local materials and engage local labour. He further appealed to the community to support the contractor throughout the project.
“The contractor would need the support of the community to be able to deliver the project within the stipulated timelines. And I want to urge the contractor to do as much as possible—use local content. The labour should come from the community,” he added.
