Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Africa, has criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) for failing to properly coordinate and manage the collation of results, a lapse he says has sparked controversy around the Kpandai parliamentary election.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, December 13, Cudjoe argued that the irregularities leading to the rerun were due to administrative failures by the EC, rather than actions by the candidates themselves.
He expressed confidence that the NPP candidate, whom he believes genuinely won the 2024 election, will secure victory again.
“The collation issues and the rest tell me that the fault of this whole process was actually the Electoral Commission. The fact that they allowed all these things to happen means they should be chastised.
“I feel bad about the whole process. I feel it is a disservice to the candidate who won, and I hope that he wins. Of course, if he wins that is fine. I don’t know where the NDC wants to carry all these majority seats to,” he stated.
The controversy follows a Tamale High Court ruling ordering a rerun of the Kpandai parliamentary election, following a petition by NDC candidate Nsala Wakpal challenging the 2024 results won by NPP’s Matthew Nyindam. The NDC argued that the final collation was carried out without the presence of their candidate or representative, raising suspicions of foul play.
In line with the High Court’s annulment and a subsequent parliamentary declaration that the seat is vacant, the Electoral Commission has scheduled the rerun for Tuesday, December 30, 2025. The election will feature the same three candidates who contested the seat in 2024.
