The Government has commenced the 99th cycle of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) cash grant payments, with nationwide disbursement beginning on Monday, December 22, 2025.
The announcement was made at a press briefing in Accra by the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, on Friday, December 19, 2025, who disclosed that a total of GH¢139,329,463.37 has been released for the current payment cycle.
According to the Minister, the funds will benefit about 350,580 households, representing approximately 1.5 million Ghanaians across the country.
She described LEAP as a flagship social protection intervention and a key pillar of the government’s Reset Agenda, aimed at improving the livelihoods of extremely poor and vulnerable households.
Dr. Lartey explained that the bi-monthly cash grants, which are structured based on household size, range from GH¢320 to GH¢530. She noted that the timely release of the funds, particularly during the festive season, is intended to help beneficiary households meet basic needs such as food, healthcare and education-related expenses.
She further announced that the Ministry of Finance has allocated GH¢1.1 billion to the LEAP Programme, the highest budgetary allocation since the programme was introduced. The Minister said the increased funding underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening social protection systems and reducing extreme poverty.
Dr. Lartey added that LEAP coverage is expected to expand to 400,000 households in 2026, as part of efforts to broaden the programme’s reach and impact. She called on traditional authorities, faith-based organisations, civil society groups and development partners to support the sustainability and effective implementation of the initiative.
The Minister commended staff of the Ministry, the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development at the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly levels, Community Focal Persons, payment service providers, development partners and Members of Parliament for their continued support.
She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of poor and vulnerable households nationwide through sustained investment in social protection programmes.
