Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, Chairman of the National Peace Council, has highlighted the urgent need for increased staffing and better remuneration for the council’s personnel.
Speaking on the challenges facing the council during a meeting with President John Dramani in Accra on Wednesday December 10, Rev. Fianu noted that the current complement of 83 permanent staff is far below the 400 personnel required to effectively manage regional operations and address over 300 ongoing conflict cases.
He also raised concerns about high staff turnover, attributing it primarily to low salaries and insufficient allowances.
Rev. Fianu pointed out that the last board has pending payments of allowances for the third and fourth quarters of 2024, describing the existing seating allowance for board members as inadequate given the level of commitment expected.
The chairman stressed that failure to honor these allowances undermines the motivation of board members and does not reflect proper appreciation for their service.
