The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has issued a public alert after identifying six University of Ghana (UG) Learning Centres operating without accreditation, warning that all qualifications issued from these centres are not recognised for employment, further education, or promotion.

In a statement signed by Dr Emmanuel Oware Nyarko, Director of Quality Assurance and Compliance on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, he advised prospective students, parents, and employers to verify the accreditation status of any tertiary institution or learning centre before enrolling or hiring.

GTEC has also directed 11 institutions to immediately suspend new admissions until they meet the required accreditation standards.

These include the Institute of Business Management and Journalism (Kumasi), Rural Development College (Kwaso), University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies (Bunso), Kings and Queens Medical College (Akosombo), Springs College (Labone), and several others.

A further 26 institutions, including Abbeam Institute of Technology (Kasoa), Lakeside University College (Accra), ILMA Institute of Science and Technology (Accra), Presbyterian Nurses’ Training College (Bawku), and Holy Spirit College of Education (Ho), were listed as having expired institutional accreditation.

GTEC stressed that enrolling in unaccredited institutions carries significant risks, including wasted time, loss of financial investment, and jeopardised career prospects.

The Commission said the notice is part of efforts to protect the public, ensure quality assurance in tertiary education, and prevent misinformation and exploitation within the sector.
