A tragic head-on collision at Mampong Abuontem in the Ashanti Region on Thursday, 4 December 2025, has left three people dead and 30 others injured.

Of those injured, 26 were treated and discharged, while four remain in critical condition at the Mampong Government Hospital.

The crash involved a Toyota Coaster minibus (GV 1720-20) from Ejura Agric College and an Opel Astra (AS 3838 W), which was completely mangled. The minibus had its windscreen, front bumper and fenders damaged. Eyewitnesses said the Opel Astra lost control on a curve, veering into the path of the oncoming minibus, triggering the collision.

Two additional occupants of the Opel Astra later died after being rescued, while the driver was extricated dead and handed over to the police.

Responding swiftly to the emergency call at 17:38 hours, the Mampong Fire Station, led by LFM Emmanuel Kwami, assisted at the scene. All injured occupants — including 26 students, three staff members and the bus driver — had been evacuated by ambulance before the rescue team arrived. The crew also cleared debris to restore traffic flow.

Authorities have urged motorists to maintain their vehicles, avoid overtaking on curves, and strictly observe road safety measures to prevent similar tragedies.
