Water tariffs up by 15.9%, electricity up 9.8% effective January 1, 2026

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced new tariff adjustments for electricity and water, effective January 1, 2026, following its multi-year tariff review process covering 2026 to 2030.

Electricity tariffs will rise by 9.86 percent across all customer categories, while water tariffs will see a 15.92 percent increase over the five-year control period.

The Commission said the adjustments were necessary to meet the investment requirements of utility providers, ensure industry competitiveness, and safeguard consumer interests.

The review also incorporates quarterly adjustments to account for factors beyond the control of service providers, including exchange rate fluctuations, inflation, fuel costs, and generation mix.

Additionally, mini-grid tariffs have been introduced to support electricity access in island communities, with costs absorbed into the Volta River Authority’s revenue requirements.

PURC emphasised that the decision followed extensive stakeholder consultations, public hearings, and evaluation of utility proposals.

The Commission pledged to continue monitoring service providers to ensure efficiency, value for money, and adherence to regulatory standards.
