NPP presidential hopeful Dr. Bryan Acheampong has called on delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to prioritise unity as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections, arguing that lingering divisions from the 2023 primaries continue to affect party cohesion.

Speaking to party delegates in Suhum on Monday, January 19, as part of the second leg of his campaign tour of the Eastern Region, Dr. Acheampong said the party must move beyond internal rivalries and rally behind a candidate capable of uniting all factions.

Dr. Acheampong urged delegates to support his candidacy, presenting himself as a unifying figure capable of restoring cohesion and positioning the NPP strongly for victory in the 2028 general elections.

According to him, the pain and divisions from the 2023 primaries remain fresh in the minds of many party members, making unity critical if the NPP hopes to reclaim power.

“The pain from the 2023 primaries is still fresh in the minds of many people, so let us put aside these leaders and choose someone who can unite the party. Send me so I can win power for this party,” he said.

Dr. Acheampong questioned the current dynamics within the party’s internal contests, stressing that unity must be placed above individual ambitions.

“Have you asked yourself why we are running the party this way? We are looking for unity to fight for power. We want unity above all,” he noted.

He also raised concerns about the lack of cross-camp support after internal elections, warning that such divisions could undermine the party’s chances in future national polls.

“I asked who believes that when Ken wins, Bawumia’s team will support him to win in 2028, or vice versa. It cannot continue like this. I am the one who can unite the party,” he added.
