Dr. K.K. Sarpong, former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has described the fiery temperament of New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong as manageable, urging party delegates to focus on his overall qualities rather than his outspoken nature.

Kennedy Agyapong has often been described as a “no-nonsense” individual who is easily provoked, a perception that has generated debate within the party.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Tuesday, January 20, Dr. Sarpong said Mr. Agyapong typically reacts only when provoked and should be assessed based on the totality of his character.

“I did a summary, his pluses were higher. I’m saying that the only problem people could see is with his speech. For me, we can manage that so that he can do the good things in him for the benefit of the country,” he said.

Dr. Sarpong also pointed to Mr. Agyapong’s record, noting the absence of corruption allegations against him. “Have you heard that he’s been tagged with corruption? If he’s insulting people, that is one side, but have you looked at the totality of his personality?” he asked.

He added that his closer interaction with the NPP aspirant had revealed a more humble side. “I got closer to him and saw how humble he is. Now he must be behaving presidential. Let us be honest, in the last six months, have you heard anything about him that is negative? It’s not pretence,” Dr. Sarpong said.

According to him, Kennedy Agyapong’s recent conduct and leadership choices demonstrate maturity, and he should be judged beyond a single trait. “Whatever he is, don’t judge him on one variable; judge him on the totality of the variables,” he added.
