Keep ORAL hot to maintain public confidence – Domelevo

Former Auditor-General and EOCO Board Chair, Daniel Yao Domelevo, has emphasised the need to sustain momentum in the Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) initiative to maintain public trust.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, January 10, 2026, Mr. Domelevo who was a member of the (ORAL) team described it as a “big plan” initially rolled out in the lead up to the 2024 elections.

“ORAL was a big plan that was used for the 2024 election and we must keep it hot such that the public will not lose confidence over what we are doing,” he told host Selorm Adonoo.

He explained that the committee’s mandate was primarily to receive complaints about alleged financial mismanagement and corruption, noting that it had received more than 2,000 complaints to date.

“A lot of them were chaff and we’ve thrown them away,” Domelevo added, highlighting the team’s effort to filter genuine complaints from frivolous ones.

Mr. Domelevo emphasised that while the Mahama government has so far not suffered any major financial misconduct, gaps in the current legal framework could undermine ORAL’s impact.

“It will be better to also add changes in the legal framework so as to bring about the necessary deterrence that we expect,” highlighting that stronger laws would ensure accountability and discourage corruption before it occurs.

The Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) initiative, launched by the NDC government, aims to retrieve misappropriated state assets, particularly from politicians and politically exposed persons linked to the previous administration.

In 2025, the then ORAL Chairman, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, handed a detailed dossier of corruption-related cases to the Attorney-General, which are actively under investigations by relevant agencies. It is estimated that a full recovery of the stolen assets could inject as much as US$21 billion into the national coffers.
