Former Member of Parliament for Tema West and former Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), Irene Naa Torshie Addo, has explained that changing circumstances influenced her decision to switch allegiance in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearership race.
Naa Torshie Addo, who previously supported former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia during the party’s last presidential primary, has in the 2026 contest declared her support for Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
Speaking to Citi News after casting her ballot, the former MP said political choices are not static and are often shaped by prevailing conditions.
According to her, each election cycle presents a unique context that requires a fresh assessment of candidates and the party’s electoral prospects.
“The elections are different. Election 2024 is different from Election 2028, so you don’t have to vote for the same person. Circumstances may change, personalities may change, the way the party in power will be behaving would advise you on which candidate can fight for 2028. So, I took all of that into consideration and chose Ken,” she said.
She stressed that her decision was guided by what she believes is in the best interest of the party as it prepares for the 2028 general election.
