Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has provided vehicles for regional coordinators of the National Apprenticeship Programme to strengthen supervision and ensure the initiative delivers meaningful outcomes for young people.

Mr Opare Addo explained that the vehicles will enhance effective monitoring of apprentices across the regions, helping to transition beneficiaries from apprenticeship into entrepreneurship.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, January 27, he stressed that the vehicles are strictly for official use, will be fitted with tracking devices, and must be properly maintained, citing concerns about a poor maintenance culture.

The Minister revealed that about 14,000 apprentices are currently enrolled nationwide, with the first cohort expected to graduate soon. He added that the success of the programme will largely depend on strong and consistent supervision by regional coordinators.

“I will urge whoever is going to receive these vehicles to take good care of them. One of our biggest challenges as a people is our maintenance culture. These are brand-new vehicles, and we expect that they will be properly utilised and maintained,” he said.
