The Member of Parliament for the Kpandai Constituency has expressed satisfaction following the Supreme Court’s decision to quash the Tamale High Court ruling that annulled the 2024 parliamentary election results.

Speaking to the media after the court proceedings on Wednesday, the MP expressed gratitude to the judiciary, his legal team, and supporters.

“I want to thank the Almighty God for what he’s done in my life, and to also thank my lawyers and the Supreme Court judges for the ruling. It is clear that the NDC wanted to change the will of the people of Kpandai, but the Supreme Court has affirmed the will of the people, and I am most grateful,” he said.

He also acknowledged the support of his party and former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, wishing him success in the upcoming NPP primary set for January 31.

The Supreme Court, by a 4–1 majority, overturned the judgment of the Tamale High Court, restoring the status quo before the annulment. The apex court ruled that the High Court erred in its interpretation and application of the law governing parliamentary election petitions, warranting intervention from the nation’s highest court. Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang dissented, marking the lone opposing view on the panel.

While the full reasons for the judgment have yet to be published, the ruling brings legal finality to the dispute and carries significant implications for parliamentary representation in the Kpandai Constituency.

The case stems from the Tamale High Court’s decision to overturn the election of NPP MP Matthew Nyindam following a petition by the NDC candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal. The High Court had subsequently ordered a rerun of the parliamentary election, which the Electoral Commission (EC) scheduled for December 31, 2025.

However, the rerun process was halted after Mr Nyindam applied to the Supreme Court, invoking its supervisory jurisdiction to quash the High Court’s ruling.
