The Zongo Institute for Development (ZID) has called on the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to investigate and sanction members of the Ayawaso East Primary Vetting Committee over the secret filming of Hajia Amina Adam, a parliamentary aspirant in the constituency.

Hajia Amina Adam, the widow of the late Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Mahama Naser Toure, is currently observing her widowhood rites and is traditionally expected to remain out of public view for a period of 40 days.

Despite requesting to be vetted virtually, her request was denied by the party’s Functional Executive Committee, compelling her to appear in person at the constituency office for the vetting.

Images from the session later surfaced online and quickly went viral, triggering public concern and criticism.

In a statement issued on Thursday, January 29, ZID condemned the actions of the vetting committee, describing the filming and circulation of the images as a violation of the candidate’s dignity and a breach of established vetting protocols.

The institute noted that the incident has exposed Hajia Amina Adam to unnecessary public ridicule and emotional distress.

ZID further questioned the adequacy of administrative and security measures governing the NDC’s internal electoral processes and called for urgent reforms to prevent a recurrence of similar incidents.
