The Accra Regional Police Command has strengthened security at Mamprobi Polyclinic following the recent theft of a four-day-old infant.

Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs, confirmed on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, February 18, that the measures aim to prevent similar incidents and reassure patients and staff of their safety.

The enhanced measures, according to her, include closer monitoring of visitors and staff, ensuring that all infants are protected from potential abduction.

Police successfully apprehended the suspect, 33-year-old Latifa Iddrisu, a cloth seller in Accra, on Wednesday, February 18. She was found at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital with the stolen baby.

Authorities promptly transferred the suspect to the Mamprobi Polyclinic under the Dansoman Divisional Police Command for questioning and identification procedures.

The infant’s mother, the Police said, was called to verify the child, identifying the baby through a distinctive birthmark on the left leg. This confirmation allowed the baby to be safely reunited with the family, ending a tense period of uncertainty for the parents.

“We have been able to improve security within the Mamprobi Polyclinic and extend it to other hospitals as well. She is to face the court on Thursday, and after the court proceedings, I should be able to give an update on the ruling,” he added.

Latifa Iddrisu is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, February 18.
