President John Dramani Mahama has charged the newly inaugurated Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy (PAGE) to prioritise evidence-based analysis and independent counsel in the discharge of its mandate.

Addressing members of the group at their inaugural ceremony on Wednesday, February 11, the President underscored the need for objective and data-driven policy guidance as the country navigates its economic recovery efforts.

He tasked PAGE to propose policy adjustments where necessary and to provide expert input into Ghana’s economic negotiations and engagements with bilateral and multilateral partners, international financial institutions, and investors.

President Mahama further directed that the advisory group report directly to him, submitting advisory memoranda, briefs and strategic reviews as and when required. He stressed that their counsel must be anchored in the long-term national interest.

“Your counsel is expected to be frank, independent and evidence-based,” the President stated, emphasising that sound economic management depends on honest assessments and strategic foresight.

The formation of PAGE is expected to strengthen economic governance by providing high-level advisory support to the Presidency on critical fiscal and structural reforms.

 Members of the Group

The members of the group comprise the Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, respected economist and private sector leader Kwame Pianim, and renowned industrialist Sir Samuel Esson Jonah.

Other members are Ishmael Yamson, private sector leader and former PAGE member; Nana Oye Mansa Yeboaa, former Deputy Minister of Finance and Trade and Industry and former PAGE member; Dr Kwabena Duffuor, economist, former Governor of the Bank of Ghana and former Finance Minister; and Ato Brown, former World Bank Infrastructure Specialist and agribusiness investor.

The advisory group also comprises Dr Henry A. Kofi Wampah, former Governor of the Bank of Ghana; Togbe Afede XIV, economist and private sector leader; Abena Amoah, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Stock Exchange; Prof. Priscilla Twumasi Baffour, university professor and academic researcher; and Prof. Patience Aseweh Abor, PhD, university professor and academic researcher.
