Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Africa, has defended the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, dismissing claims that the office failed following the permanent deletion of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s INTERPOL Red Notice.
The Red Notice was removed by the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files (CCF) after determining it was “predominantly political” and non-compliant with INTERPOL rules. In its 135th session on February 4, 2026, the CCF concluded that the data submitted by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) of Ghana did not meet INTERPOL’s standards and should be permanently deleted.
Speaking on Saturday, February 14, during an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue, Mr. Cudjoe emphasised that it was the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) that successfully secured Ofori-Atta’s listing on INTERPOL as a fugitive.
“Anybody who suggests that the OSP has failed, and Ken Ofori-Atta’s lawyers are happy, is just crap. Who successfully got Ken Ofori-Atta on the list? It was the OSP who convinced INTERPOL to put Ofori-Atta on the list that he was a fugitive of the law. Ken Ofori-Atta is running away from accountability. Why?” Cudjoe said.
He criticised Ofori-Atta for avoiding prosecution and failing to return to Ghana despite multiple extradition efforts by the OSP. Cudjoe also questioned Ofori-Atta’s qualifications as Finance Minister, citing economic missteps and political disapproval from some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members.
“I still believe Ofori-Atta shouldn’t have been a Finance minister; he should have been an advisor. He never understood public policy,” he said.
Cudjoe further rejected claims of political persecution, asserting that the NPP had a history of persecuting individuals during its tenure, contrary to assertions by Ofori-Atta’s lawyers.
“If there is any history of persecution, it is the NPP which has persecuted people who died in jail,” he asserted.
The OSP confirmed the deletion of the Red Notice, reiterating its commitment to due process and the fair, lawful, and impartial prosecution of corruption and related offences. The announcement was made in a public notice dated February 13, 2026, by Counsel for Mr. Ofori-Atta, Justice Kusi-Minkah Premo Esq.
The CCF, after a thorough review, concluded that the Red Notice “appears of a predominantly political character” and does not comply with INTERPOL’s regulations. The commission ordered that the notice be permanently removed from INTERPOL’s information system.
