President John Dramani Mahama has called for Africa’s inclusion in the United Nations Security Council and other global institutions, insisting that outdated governance systems must be reformed to better represent the continent.

Speaking on the need for structural change in the Zambian Parliament on Thursday, February 5, President Mahama urged Africa to work collectively to escape poverty and achieve economic transformation, while leveraging its comparative advantages for industrial growth.

He highlighted the essence of unity of action and self-reliance, which he stated are key to reshaping global systems that have long disadvantaged Africa and much of the Global South.

“The Accra Reset does not seek to disrupt global partnerships. The Accra Reset advocates the forging of new partnerships to transform global systems that have been rigged against Africa and much of the Global South for a long time,” he said.

“While we must work collectively to achieve these objectives, much depends on how we act locally. Leadership is fundamental to achieving the Accra Reset’s goals,” he added, urging leaders to act decisively within their countries to drive the continent’s economic and political renewal.
