The Founder and General Overseer of Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, has called on church leaders to prioritise teaching their congregations how to discern the voice of God for themselves.
His remarks come at a time when Ghana’s religious space is under intense public scrutiny over controversial prophecies predicting deaths, disasters, and political outcomes, that often gain traction on social media and spill into national discourse.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Wednesday, February 25, the Archbishop stressed that empowering believers with spiritual understanding is the most effective safeguard against misleading prophecies and false teachings.
Archbishop Duncan-Williams emphasised that the responsibility lies not only with prophets but with church leaders broadly, insisting that spiritual maturity within congregations would reduce the influence of questionable declarations.
“One of the things that we really have to emphasise on, to all of us here and every man of God is to educate the church. Jesus said, my sheep knows my voice and a stranger’s voice they will not follow. That is the key.
“We have to teach our church to the point where people get to know for themselves the voice of the shepherd, the master. When people know the master’s voice, it is difficult for a stranger to mislead them. Our responsibility is to educate the flock,” he said.
According to him, equipping believers with sound biblical teaching remains the surest way to protect them from deception.
