Two people have died, and 19 others have been injured following a multi-vehicle collision on the N1 highway near the Achimota footbridge on Monday, February 23.
According to a Facebook post by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Tuesday, February 24, rescuers from the GNFS National Headquarters were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 19:58 GMT.

The crash involved a Kia motor truck (GG 1304-18), a Sprinter bus (GX 8325-13), and a Volvo trailer (GT 7856-20). Emergency teams extricated victims and provided immediate medical care.
Out of the 21 people involved, two died at the scene, while 19 were taken to Achimota Hospital and the 37 Military Hospital for treatment.

“The service, working alongside other emergency responders, secured and managed the scene, prevented secondary incidents, and cleared the roadway to restore traffic flow,” the statement said.
The GNFS added that the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

The service also extended its condolences to the families of the deceased, wished a speedy recovery to the injured, and urged all motorists to strictly observe traffic regulations and prioritise road safety.
