The Ghana Police, alongside the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), have arrested 12 suspects allegedly involved in cybercrime and human trafficking in a coordinated operation conducted earlier this week.
The arrests, according to a police statement on Saturday, March 14, followed a joint operation on March 12, 2026, involving the IGP’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team, the Surveillance Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, and the GIS.
Six other Nigerian nationals suspected of involvement in migration-related offences remain at large.
The suspects are alleged to have engaged in organised cyber fraud and human trafficking activities. During the operation, officers recovered 25 laptops and seven mobile phones used in carrying out the alleged crimes.
The brief highlighted that the suspects attempted to obstruct enforcement efforts by releasing German Shepherd dogs on the officers. Reinforcements from the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team and the CID Surveillance Unit were deployed, ensuring the operation proceeded smoothly.
Preliminary investigations indicate the suspects were involved in a range of cyber offences, including internet fraud, identity theft, phishing scams, mobile money (MoMo) fraud, cyber extortion, blackmail, credit card and ATM fraud, and electronic forgery. Authorities also noted a growing connection between cybercrime networks and transnational migration activities.
The police statement stressed the importance of intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration in disrupting criminal enterprises.
“The Ghana Police Service is committed to intelligence-led operations, inter-agency coordination, and strict enforcement of the law to safeguard national security and maintain the integrity of Ghana’s digital and migration space,” the brief said.
