The Gbese District Court has dismissed key defence arguments in the high-profile extradition case involving Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, clearing the way for his potential extradition.

The court ruled that claims of political persecution and entrapment were unsubstantiated, stating there was no evidence that the prosecution was politically motivated or that Abu Trica had been lured into committing the alleged offences.

“This decision removes major legal obstacles that had been put forward to block the extradition request,” the court noted.

Abu Trica’s lawyer confirmed that the judge found no political link to the alleged crimes and emphasised that “Abu needs to be extradited.”

However, the court granted a 15-day window for the defence to contest the ruling, allowing time to file an appeal or seek a review.

“If the defence fails to overturn the ruling within this period, the case will proceed to the next stage of extradition proceedings,” the court added.

Abu Trica’s legal team has indicated that they may challenge the decision in higher courts, describing the ruling as an “error on the face of the record.”
